Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

I don't receive any answer by email from MacRailSoft ! (Spamfilters)
Most likely your email provider has either a local technical problem or is blocking our emails from getting to you.
Please note that we answer every email. If you don't get any response from us, something is wrong.
Some email providers try to protect their customers from spam by actively blocking emails they consider harmful, sometimes cutting you off complete parts of the internet so you're no longer receiving emails from specific domains or IP address ranges - e.g. by us.
If you do not receive our response check your email client's spam settings or write us from a different email account.

When will I get my license key ?
License keys are created manually. This can take up to 48h, though processing times are usually much faster than that. Please also note I don't receive any answer by email from MacRailSoft ! (Spamfilters).

How can I open RailModeller 1.0 or 2.0 worksheets on Intel Macs ?
Worksheets created with a RailModeller version prior to 3.0 use a different file format. This file format cannot be opened on Intel Macs. To convert old worksheets please follow these simple steps:

1. Please ensure RailModeller is not running
2. In the Finder choose “File > Get Info” for the RailModeller application icon
3. Check the “Open using Rosetta” option
4. After launching RailModeller the About box states that it’s running in PowerPC mode
5. Simply open and save the layouts you need to convert
6. Quit RailModeller
7. Remove the “Open using Rosetta” option

The next time RailModeller is started the About box should state that the program is running in Intel mode and the converted worksheets will work just fine.

Why does every click in the worksheet insert a new element ?
You are working in the Create/Select mode. This is the tool selected by default when RailModeller starts up. You can choose to the Select tool (hotkey: S) where elements can be selected with the mouse. Clicks in empty areas of the worksheet have no effect when using the Select tool.

 The grid doesn't print!
Sometimes the grid is not visible on print outs. This is easily fixed by either

  • Choosing the highest quality possible in your printer driver, or
  • Switching to "Black on White" or "Dark Grey on White" in "Display > Worksheet Colors"

I can't find a library for XYZ in the trial version. Is it available in the registered version ?
The libraries are similar for the trial and the registered, fully featured version.
The only difference for the trial version consists of the disabled "Save" and "Print" functions.

Why are tracks from vendor XYZ not included in the release ?
New libraries for the various vendors are constantly added to the distribution.
There are few vendors which, for various reasons, don't provide the specifications of their tracks. Without this information it is often not possible to create these particular libraries.

If you have any detailed information about a track system not yet included in the RailModeller distribution, please feel free to send them to us and we're happy to update our libraries!

Can RailModeller export in any vector format ?
Currently only exporting to bitmap formats (PNG, JPG, TIFF, PSD) is supported, as well as saving a printout to PDF. Export to the free SVG vector format will be added in a future release.

What are the plans for future releases ?
There are lots of plans for making the application an ever better solution for layout design on Mac OS.
Planned featured include:

  • Modelling of terrain and landscapes
  • Support for creating variable base plates
  • Assistants for interactively creating buildings, bridges or streets

How can I turn of the limitations of the demoversion as a registered user ?
Please launch RailModeller, open the Preferences and go to the "Registration" panel.
If it doesn't already show your registration information click the "Enter License Key" button and in the dialog that appears browse to your personalized license key "rm.key" and choose open. A message will then indicate that the license key was successfully installed!
